eWallet allows anyone to send money to anyone with a valid South African Cellphone number, even if they don't have a bank account. The money is transferred instantly and can be used to withdraw cash from FNB ATMs, buy prepaid airtime or electricity, Send Money to another Cellphone, pay to a bank account and more. eWallet

What does eWallet offer me?

With FNB eWallet you can:

  • Send Money to anyone with a valid South African Cellphone number.*
  • Choose one of four ways to Send Money : FNB Cellphone Banking, FNB Online Banking, FNB Banking App or FNB ATMs, whichever is the most convenient
  • Deposit cash directly into an eWallet at FNB ADTs (FNB ATMs with automated deposits)
  • Get cash at FNB ATMs nationwide
  • Buy prepaid airtime, data and electricity, make payments, purchase and get cash at selected retailers
  • Make or receive payments into an eWallet using GeoPayments. GeoPayments is a location-based payment service that allows you to Pay Someone who is less than 500 metres from you without having to enter their details into your mobile device. Both the Sender and Recipient have to register for the service i.e. download the FNB Banking App

*Nokia Lumia phones and all other Windows 7.5 and Windows 8 operated phones cannot be used to Send Money or to Receive Money.

Note: FNB customers can now Send Money to anyone with eWallet using their FNB Credit Card. This service is available at all FNB ATMs and on FNB Online Banking.

A Recipient of eWallet funds can:

  • Send a portion of the funds to another Cellphone
  • Withdraw all or some of the cash from the eWallet at an FNB ATM, without needing a bank card. The rest of the money can be withdrawn at a later stage
  • Buy prepaid airtime, data and prepaid electricity from the eWallet
  • Check the eWallet balance or get a mini statement
  • Pay for goods and services online from the eWallet using Cell Pay Point
  • Pay to a bank account
  • Make purchases and withdraw cash at Selected Retailers*
  • Make or receive payments into an eWallet using GeoPayments. GeoPayments is a location-based payment service that allows you to Pay Someone who is less than 500 metres from you without having to enter their details into your mobile device. Both the Sender and Recipient have to register for the service i.e. download the FNB Banking App

Do I qualify?

  • To Send Money via an FNB ATM: No registration or application is necessary - you only need to have an active FNB transactional account and FNB debit or cheque card.
  • To Send Money via FNB Cellphone Banking: You need to register for Cellphone Banking
  • To Send Money via FNB Online Banking: You need to register for Online Banking
  • To Send Money via the FNB Banking App: You need to have a Smartphone and download the FNB Banking App
  • To deposit cash into an eWallet at FNB ATM ADVANCE (ATM with automated deposits) You need a valid South African Cellphone* number. If you are not an FNB customer and would like to deposit cash into an eWallet at an FNB ATM ADVANCE (FNB ATM with automated deposits), you need to take your South African ID to any of the selected FNB Branches and follow a simple once-off registration process.

*Excludes devices operated by Windows 7.5 such as Nokia Lumia

How do I Send Money?

To Send Money via FNB Cellphone Banking:

  • Dial *120*321#
  • Select Send Money
  • Select eWallet
  • Select the account you want to Send Money from
  • Key in the cellphone number you want to send to
  • Enter the amount you want to send
  • Select whether you would like FNB to send the Recipient the ATM PIN in an SMS, to simplify the withdrawal process for the Recipient
  • Confirm that the amount and Cellphone number are correct and confirm your acceptance of the service fees

To Send Money via FNB Online Banking (Once-Off):

  • Log into Online Banking
  • Select the Send Money tab
  • Select Once Off Payment
  • Enter the Cellphone number of the recipient
  • Enter the amount you would like to send
  • Check the account you want to Send Money from (on the bottom right corner). If you would like to change this, select the orange icon next to the account name.
  • Check and confirm the transaction
  • Enter your One Time PIN (OTP)

To Send Money via FNB Online Banking (From your Phonebook):

  • Log into Online Banking
  • Select the Send Money tab
  • If there are no recipients saved in your Phonebook, select the '+Add' icon. Enter the name and Cellphone number of the recipient and select 'Add Recipient'. You can add up to 5 recipients at a time.
  • After selecting Send Money, enter the amount you would like to pay to a certain recipient.
  • Check the account you would like to send from (on the bottom right corner). If you would like to change this, select the orange icon next to the account name.
  • Select Send, Confirm and enter the one-time PIN (OTP) for this transaction.

To Send Money via FNB Banking App:

  • Log into FNB Banking
  • Select the Send Money tab
  • Select the account you want to Send Money from
  • Enter the amount you want to send
  • Enter the cellphone number you want to Send Money to
  • Select Send
  • Confirm

To Pay Someone into an eWallet using GeoPayments on FNB Banking App:

  • Launch the FNB Banking App
  • Select GeoPay
  • Select Pay Someone
  • Ask the recipient to select Receive Payment (recipient needs FNB Banking App)
  • Select the recipient you want to pay
  • Choose amount and confirm details

To Send Money via an FNB ATM:

  • Insert your FNB debit or cheque card at the FNB ATM and enter your PIN
  • Select More options
  • Select Send or Receive Money
  • Select Send Money To eWallet
  • Enter your Date of Birth on the keypad. Read the Terms and Conditions and then select Proceed
  • Key in the Cellphone number you want to Send Money to and select Proceed
  • Key in the amount you want to send and select Proceed
  • Confirm that all the details are correct and select Proceed
  • Remember to take your card before leaving the ATM

Note: Please ensure that the Cellphone number of the person you Send Money to is correct. If an incorrect Cellphone number is used, please contact the Call Centre on 087 575 9405.

How do I Receive Money?

There are two ways in which a Recipient can receive money

Method 1 (available to all FNB eWallet users)

  • You receive an SMS advising that money has been sent to your Cellphone. You will need to request an ATM PIN which will expire after 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are close to the FNB ATM (less than 30 minutes away) before proceeding with the following steps
  • Dial *120*277# to access the eWallet
  • Select 'Withdraw cash' and then 'Get ATM PIN'
  • You'll receive an SMS with an ATM PIN
  • At the FNB ATM press the green button (enter/ proceed) on the keypad OR select Cardless Services
  • Select eWallet Services
  • Key in your Cellphone number and select Proceed
  • Key in the eWallet ATM PIN you requested and received via SMS
  • Choose the cash amount
  • Make sure that either your transaction has ended or that you press 'cancel' before leaving the ATM.

Method 2 (where the Recipient has received the ATM PIN in an SMS)

  • You receive a Send Money SMS notification telling you that money has been sent to your Cellphone. The SMS will contain the ATM PIN required to get cash. This PIN is valid for 4 hours. If the PIN expires before you withdraw the cash, please follow Method 1.
  • At the FNB ATM press the green button (enter/ proceed) on the keypad OR select Cardless Services
  • Select eWallet Services
  • Key in your Cellphone number and select Proceed
  • Key in the eWallet ATM PIN you received via SMS
  • Choose the cash amount
  • Make sure that either your transaction has ended or that you press 'cancel' before leaving the ATM.

Note: If you are a Recipient of Send Money but you have no airtime, dial *130*277#.This will allow you to buy airtime from the funds you received via Send Money. Then follow Method 1

If an eWallet has not been activated within 13 days of the first Send Money transaction, the money will be returned to the sender. To activate the eWallet, simply dial *120*277#

eWallet Card

To link an eWallet Card you need to register the eWallet. Simply go to one of the selected FNB Branches with your South African ID to register your eWallet. Once you have registered your eWallet, you will be handed an eWallet Card Pack to link a card to eWallet at the FNB ATM. Instructions on how to link the eWallet Card will be included in the Card Pack.

eWallet Card Packs will be available at selected FNB Branches from 1st December 2014.

Deposit Cash into eWallet at FNB ATM Advance

Anyone can deposit cash into FNB eWallet at the FNB ATM Advance (FNB ATMs with Automated Deposits) as an FNB customer or if the eWallet has been registered at a selected FNB Branch . If you are not an FNB customer, simply go to any of the selected FNB Branches with your South African ID to register. This is a simple, once-off process. Then go to the nearest FNB ATM Advance (ATM with Automated Deposits) to deposit cash into FNB eWallet.

How to deposit cash into FNB eWallet at the FNB ATM ADVANCE:

  • Select 'Cardless Services' or press 'Enter' on the keypad
  • Select 'Deposit Cash into eWallet'
  • Accept the 'Terms of Use'
  • Enter 'ID number'
  • Enter 'Cellphone Number'
  • Confirm that the details are correct
  • Deposit Cash
  • Confirm

Once there is money in the FNB eWallet, you can Send Money to any Cellphone, buy prepaid airtime and much more.

What else do I need to know?

Limits on FNB eWallet

There is a daily limit of R1 500 per day for Send Money transactions from the following channels: Cellphone banking and FNB ATM. This limit also includes Prepaid transactions. For full details on limits applicable to the wallet please refer to the Terms of Use [197 KB] .

Note: The daily send limit for Send Money transactions on Online Banking and FNB Banking App is R3 000

Reduced limits - SIM swap

If a Cellphone user has recently performed a SIM swap and wishes to Send Money with eWallet using FNB Cellphone Banking, the Send Money process will be different. During the Send Money process on the *120*321# platform, the Sender will be requested to enter their FNB Cheque Card details (the last 4 digits of their card and ATM PIN.)

In addition, the FNB Cellphone Banking limit (including Prepaid and Send Money) will be reduced to R500 per day for 72 hours. After the 72 hour waiting period, normal limits will be restored. This limit is imposed as a security measure to protect the sender's Cellphone Banking profile.

FNB eWallet Balance

The balance in an FNB eWallet may not exceed R5 000 at any given time. Any Send Money transaction which may cause an eWallet balance to exceed R5000 will be declined.

Reversals

Should you Send Money to the incorrect Cellphone number using eWallet, FNB will not be held liable. You may call the eWallet Call Centre on 087 575 9405 to reverse the transaction should the funds still be available in the recipient eWallet. Please note that a reversal of an incorrect Send Money transaction may incur a fee and is not guaranteed.
