How does the eWallet recipient use their eWallet to make purchases at retail partners?

  • On cellphone banking, please dial *120*277*4#. On app, navigate to the 'Buy Goods' option. On WhatsApp, navigate to 'Buy at Shop'.
  • They will automatically receive a one-time PIN (OTP) and a reference number (the OTP expires after 16 hours).
  • They can tell the cashier and or fuel attendant they would like to buy goods or fuel.
  • They enter the OTP and reference number they received from FNB.

What happens if I send money to the wrong cellphone number?

How does the recipient get cash?

  • You can generate a PIN on the FNB App, WhatsApp, or by dialing *120*277# or *120*321#, to withdraw cash at FNB ATMs, AgencyPlus, or selected retailers.
  • The recipient will receive an SMS with a temporary PIN. A temporary PIN that can be used at an FNB ATM or AgencyPlus agent.
  • They need to enter their cellphone number and the temporary PIN sent via SMS, and choose the amount of cash they would like to withdraw. The temporary PIN is for ATM and AgencyPlus.
  • eWallet recipients and eXtra customers can also get cash from Checkers, Shoprite, Usave, PnP, Pep, and Ackermans.

Why is my Send Money transaction blocked or why is the limit reduced?

The system checks whether the transaction is potentially fraudulent and if so, blocks the Send Money transaction or applies reduced limits.

How can I protect my eWallet funds?

What is the difference between a temporary ATM PIN and an eWallet PIN?

A temporary ATM PIN is used to get cash at an FNB ATM. An eWallet PIN is used to protect funds in the eWallet.

What is the difference between the free (*130*277#) and paid (*120*277#) dial strings?

If you have no airtime use the free dial string: *130*277#. You will then be directed to purchase airtime. Thereafter, use the paid dial string: *120*277#.

What if I have another query or need to speak to someone about an eWallet problem?

How do I initiate an eWallet reversal?

The sender can initiate a reversal via:

  • The FNB App
  • The cellphone banking dial string (*120*321#)
  • The call centre on 087 392 5538
  • WhatsApp on 087 392 5538

How long do I have to reverse an eWallet?

  • You have up to 72 hours to reverse an eWallet from when the funds were sent.
  • Should 72 hours have lapsed, please contact the eWallet call centre on 087 392 5538 for further assistance.
  • Reversals may be possible if the receiving eWallet holder has not yet used all the money.
  • You can only do 3 eWallet reversals per month.
  • You will be charged for all reversal attempts. Please see the eWallet Pricing Guide on our website.
  • If the recipient has evolved their eWallet, any Send Money transaction received into that eWallet must be reversed using the standard EFT reversal process. The standard EFT reversal fees will apply. EFT reversals - refer to the Electronic Payments Terms and Conditions on our website.

Note: The eWallet reversal process does not apply to Send Money transactions received into an eWallet that has been evolved.

How do I spend my eWallet?

Once you get an SMS notifying you that money has been sent, you can do the following:

  • Withdraw cash at FNB ATMs or selected retailers
  • Purchase goods at selected retailers
  • Purchase prepaid airtime, data and electricity on app or cellphone banking

Wallet reversals can be done on the FNB App, via cellphone banking by dialling *120*321#, eWallet on WhatsApp on 087 392 5538 or call the Contact Centre on 087 392 5538.

The temporary OTPs and the temporary ATM PINs are valid for only 16 hours from the time it is sent.

An eWallet can be activated by following the following process:

You can activate the eWallet by dialing the dial string *120*277#. If you don't have enough airtime, dial the activation dial string *130*277# to top up the airtime.

WhatsApp reversal steps

  1. Log in to WhatsApp
  2. Select 'Send Money' and tap 'Continue'
  3. Select 'Reversals' and tap 'Continue'
  4. Read the reversal rules and tap 'Continue'
  5. Select number to be reversed and tap 'Continue'

How to use your eWallet

Get a one-time PIN (OTP) via the FNB App to get cash

  1. Log in to your FNB App
  2. From the menu, select 'eWallet'
  3. Select 'Account Options'
  4. Select 'Withdraw Cash'
  5. Select where you would like to withdraw cash from

You will receive a One Time PIN (OTP) and sometimes a reference number, depending on where you choose to withdraw from (the OTP is valid for 16 hours).

  1. Dial *120 *277# (your ATM PIN should be displayed on the welcome screen)
  2. Select 'Access eWallet'

  6. Take your cash and select 'Cancel' to end the transaction

Make a purchase at selected Engen, Shell, Sasol, and TotalEnergies fuel stations

Dial *120*277*4# and follow the steps. You will automatically receive a one-time PIN (OTP) and a reference number. Note: the OTP expires after 16 hours.

Tell the cashier or fuel attendant you would like to purchase fuel and/or goods at the convenience store. The cashier or fuel attendant will ask for your cellphone number. Enter the OTP and reference number you received from FNB in the card machine.
